Autumn Leaves: The 10-Week Live Masterclass

Play an authentic jazz solo on Autumn Leaves — in 10 weeks, from your own phone recordings.

You know scales. You know chords. You've watched the videos and read the theory.

But when the tune starts, you still noodle. You play the right notes and the wrong things. You listen back and think — that's not really me.

This isn't a theory problem. It's a feedback problem. You've never had anyone — whose ear you trust — sit down with your actual solo and tell you exactly what to practise next.

That changes here.

What happens when you join

This is a live, weekly group masterclass for 10 weeks. Not a course you watch. A program you work.

Every week:

  • One masterclass lesson. We take one concept from the Autumn Leaves curriculum — chords, targeting, scales, rhythm, enclosures — and I break it down slowly, showing you exactly how it sounds on the tune.

  • You record a solo on your phone. Thirty seconds, a chorus, whatever you've got. Send it to me.

  • I play it back on the call — in front of the group — and tell you exactly what to practise next. Hearing your solo, live, telling you precisely where the line goes bland and how to fix it.

  •

You don't perform. You don't play live in front of anyone. There's no spotlight, no embarrassment, no "everyone's watching me." You just record at home, on your own time, and send it. Then your solo gets the treatment — and the whole cohort learns from it.

That's the whole point. No pressure, real feedback.

The 10-Week Arc

Each week a new concept, applied to the same tune, so it's never abstract — it's always on Autumn Leaves.

WeekFocusWhat you'll be able to do

1. Chords & Harmony

Map the tune — actually know what you're playing over

2. Targeting & Guide Tones

Land on the strongest notes every time. Stop sounding random

3. Scales: which, when, whyChoose the right scale for every chord. Know which notes make it jazzy

4. Rhythm & Phrasing

Swing, placement, space — sound like a pro just by how you play

5. Enclosures

Surround and land on your target notes. The "jazzy" magic

6. Chromatic Enclosures

Hard-bop bebop colour (Clifford Brown's sound)

7. Scale Fragments

Get through tricky progressions (Tom Harrell)

8. Motifs

Build a solo that holds together, not a string of licks (Blue Mitchell)

9. Broken Chords

Real vocabulary — 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th (Fats Navarro)

10. Melodic Development

The finale — two key centres, melody over notes (Miles Davis). Your final solo

By week 10, you don't just have theory. You have a complete solo you built yourself — that sounds like you.

The only condition

This is not something you watch. It's something you do.

Every week there's one thing to practise, and you come to the call having done it — because that's the only way the feedback means anything.

The more you put in, the more you get out. That's the deal.

I say it up front, because I want you to succeed — and I'd rather you know now than feel it later. If you're not ready to practise each week, this isn't for you. If you are, you'll be amazed at what 10 weeks does.

Who this is for

  • Serious amateurs who've been playing a while and want to stop noodling. Not beginners. You know your scales and chords.

  • Players who've tried to learn jazz alone and hit the wall that self-teaching kinds hits.

  • All instruments — Trumpet, Sax, Clarinet, Trombone, Piano, Bass, Flute. Concert pitch, Bb, Eb, Bass clef — you're covered.

  • Players who want real feedback, but hate the idea of performing in front of people. If the thought of playing live on a call makes you freeze — this is built for you. You record at home, privately. Only the group hears the playback, and only to learn from it.

Who this is NOT for

  • People who want to watch and not practise. (That's a video course, and you'll find it cheaper elsewhere — and get nowhere.)

  • People looking for "magic" that skips the reps.

What's included

The complete Autumn Leaves Jazz Improvisation Course (all instruments):

  • Every module's full written material (PDF)

  • Clear lesson plan — exactly what to practise and why

  • Video tutorial for every concept

  • Demo recordings so you hear how it should sound

  • Custom backing track for every lesson

PLUS — the live element that makes it work:

  • 10 weekly live masterclass calls (group)

  • Your solos critiqued on the call, every week, by me

  • The full cohort hearing each other's solos — so you learn 10x from the critiques

  • A supportive room of people all working on the same tune

Why this works

Because feedback on your playing is the one thing you can't get from a video.

I've spent years critiquing players' solos one-on-one — listening to their recordings and telling them exactly what to practise next. This is that same method, in a group, over 10 weeks, on the tune that unlocks everything else in jazz.

Learn Autumn Leaves properly, and you master the harmony that shows up in 80% of the standards you'll ever play.

The investment

£695 — for 10 weeks, every lesson, every live call, every solo critique.

Less than the cost of a handful of private lessons — for a method that serves the whole group and gets your playing heard weekly.

That's the deal. If you're ready to actually work on your soloing, and you want someone with a trustworthy ear telling you exactly what to do next, join us.

The cap is 12 students. The critiques are only as good as the group, so I keep it small.

Your move

Record a solo. Send it to me. Get told exactly what to practise. Do it again next week.

Ten weeks from now, you'll have a solo that sounds like you meant it.

The risk is mine, not yours

Work through Module 1, bring your first solo to the Week 1 call. If you don't honestly think this is going to move your playing, email me within 7 days and I'll refund you in full. No forms, no hard feelings, no questions.

I'd rather have a confident student than your money. If you're serious about your soloing, every single thing in this program is designed to justify your trust.
