Learning bebop language can feel intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. In this video, I break down the first 8 bars of three progressive etudes on Confirmation, showing how you can start connecting chord notes without drowning in theory. Each etude gradually increases in technical challenge, but the underpinning idea stays the same: understanding and playing the chord tones in a musical, flowing way.
If you grab the PDF book, each etude comes with three different tempos so you can practice at your own pace, from slow and careful to up-to-speed bebop playing. Volume 2 of this etude series also includes nine other jazz standards to work on your bebop language:
All of Me
Bye Bye Blackbird
Confirmation
Fly Me to the Moon
Have You Met Miss Jones?
I Hear a Rhapsody
I Remember You
In a Mellow Tone
It Could Happen to You
’S Wonderful
These etudes are designed to give you real bebop language you can play, without theory overwhelm. Whether you’re a beginner or early intermediate, they make learning bebop approachable, musical, and fun.
